Around 51,600 new enterprises were established with total registered capital of nearly VND508 trillion (US$20 billion) in the first four months of 2024, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).
This marked year-on-year increases of 3.4% in the number of businesses and 9.3% in the capital, it said.
These new businesses registered a total of 353,800 workers, a rise of 6.8% over the same period last year.
The average registered capital of a new enterprise in the first four months of 2024 rose by 5.7% year on year to VND9.9 billion.
In April, Vietnam had more than 15,300 newly established enterprises with registered capital of VND175.8 trillion, up by 8.4% in number of businesses and 55% in registered capital month on month.
The average registered capital of a new enterprise in April stood at VND11.5 billion, up 42.9% over the previous month.
In addition, 8,307 businesses returned to operation in April, an increase of 175.1% over the previous month.
Along with VND533.4 trillion from increasing capital of 14,143 existing enterprises, the total registered capital poured into the economy in the first four months was more than VND1 quadrillion, down 2.6% compared to the same period last year.
The GSO also said that about 29,700 businesses resumed their operation in the first four months, an increase of 2.4% over the same period in 2023, bringing the total number of newly established businesses and businesses returning to operation during the four months to 81,300 units, an increase of 3% over the same period last year.
Meanwhile, in the first four months, the number of enterprises temporarily suspending operation was 60,900, an increase of 21.9% over the same period last year. About 19,100 businesses stopped their operations to wait for dissolution procedures, down 9%, and 6,400 businesses completed dissolution procedures, an increase of 4.9%.
Of which, 7,618 businesses registered in April to temporarily suspend business, an increase of 84.1% compared to the previous month. About 4,656 businesses stopped operation to wait for dissolution procedures, down 6.5%.

Huyền thoại đầu tư Warren Buffett so sánh sự ra đời của trí tuệ nhân tạo (AI) như bom nguyên tử và lo ngại về khả năng AI bị sử dụng vào mục đích lừa đảo.
Tại họp đại hội cổ đông Berkshire Hathaway diễn ra ở Omaha (Mỹ) hôm 4/5, Chủ tịch Warren Buffett đã đề cập đến trí tuệ nhân tạo. Ông thừa nhận mình không biết nhiều về AI nhưng ông không phủ nhận sự tồn tại hay tầm quan trọng của nó.
Trí tuệ nhân tạo thu hút sự chú ý của các nhà đầu tư phố Wall hơn 1 năm qua. Các nhà đầu tư đặt cược tiềm năng của công nghệ này sẽ giúp lợi nhuận doanh nghiệp tăng cao.
Các cổ phiếu liên quan đến AI đều bùng nổ kể từ cuối năm 2022. Cổ phiếu công ty chip Nvidia tăng hơn 500%, Meta Platform cũng tăng 275% trong giai đoạn này. Tuy nhiên, huyền thoại đầu tư lại so sánh AI với sự ra đời của bom nguyên tử thế kỷ 20.
“Chúng ta đã gọi vị thần ra khỏi cây đèn khi phát triển vũ khí hạt nhân. Vị thần này sau đó đã làm nhiều điều khủng khiếp và sức mạnh của nó đó là điều khiến tôi sợ hãi. AI cũng tương tự và vị thần đã ra ngoài một phần rồi”, tỷ phú Warren Buffett nói.
Huyền thoại đầu tư lo ngại về khả năng AI bị sử dụng vào mục đích lừa đảo. Do công nghệ này có khả năng tạo ra các nội dung gây nhầm lẫn, bằng công nghệ bắt chước giọng nói hay video deep-fake, khiến mọi người chuyển tiền cho kẻ xấu.
Ông cho biết gần đây đã xem được hình ảnh và giọng nói của mình được tạo ra bởi một công cụ AI. Sản phẩm giống đến mức ngay cả vợ và các con của Buffett cũng khó phân biệt thật giả.
“Rõ ràng, AI cũng có tiềm năng cho những điều tốt đẹp, nhưng ở góc độ của người không hiểu biết về AI, nó có thể có tiềm năng gây hại lớn. Tôi chỉ không biết điều đó diễn ra như thế nào”, nhà đầu tư huyền thoại nói thêm.
Trong quý I/2024, Berkshire Hathaway, công ty đầu tư của Warren Buffett, ghi nhận lợi nhuận hoạt động tăng vọt 39% so với cùng kỳ lên hơn 11 tỷ USD.
Lượng tiền mặt của Berkshire Hathaway cũng lập kỷ lục mới gần 189 tỷ USD, tăng từ mức 168 tỷ USD hồi cuối năm 2023. Điều này cho thấy ông Buffett vẫn chưa tìm thấy món hời trên thị trường chứng khoán.
Đáng chú ý, trong quý 1/2024, Berkshire Hathaway bán ra 116 triệu cổ phiếu Apple và tổng giá trị khoản đầu tư này giảm 13%. Sau khi bán ra, công ty của Warren Buffett vẫn còn nắm giữ khoảng 790 triệu cổ phiếu Apple, với tổng giá trị 135 tỷ USD và vẫn là khoản đầu tư lớn nhất của công ty.

The central hub will welcome all investors planning for investment expansion or fund flow moves in the region.
The central city’s People’s Committee has officially issued an investment promotion programme for 2024 aiming to diversify partners and investment flows for new development.
The city said the programme will focus on calling potential domestic investors in hi-tech industries, semiconductor, information technology as well as giant technology companies from the the Europe Union, the US, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, India, and Taiwan (China).
It said the central hub will welcome all investors with planning for investment expansion or fund flow moves in the region.
Đà Nẵng has mapped out its Master Plan in 2021-30 with a vision to 2050, opening smooth options for domestic and foreign partners in line with the city’s strategic development plan for the next decades.
In boosting promotion events with partners, the city will seek collaboration with organisations including – the Việt Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), the Korean Chamber of Business in Việt Nam (KOCHAM), the American Chamber of Commerce in Việt Nam (AMCHAM), Indian Business Chamber in Việt Nam (Incham); the European Chamber of Commerce in Việt Nam (EuroCham) and the German Chamber of Commerce Abroad in Việt Nam (AHK) – in hosting investment studies and market access research as well as business links.
The investment promotion programme will also include support and positive solutions in clearing barriers in investment procedure for investors.
It also emphasised the importance of building investment links and friendship ties with the US, Australia, the EU, Finland, the UK and Denmark, speeding up possible key investment projects in Đà Nẵng.
The central city signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) for comprehensive and sustainable development in the Master Plan 2021-30, vision 2050, at Meet Đà Nẵng 2024.
Đà Nẵng’s Semiconductor and AI Centre (DSAC) was also debuted early this year, setting up a foundation for investment flow of semiconductor industry from the US, Taiwan (China), Japan and the EU.
The beach city has been in discussions with TheCityUK, the industry-led body representing UK-based financial and related professional services, in building an international financial centre (IFC).
The National Assembly of Việt Nam has agreed on the pilot project developing Đà Nẵng Free Trade Zone.
To date, the city has attracted 1,016 FDI projects worth US$4.2 billion.
